Matte Paintings: Backgrounds and Luno’s Paintings
The matte paintings above are for both the backgrounds throughout the short and the paintings the protagonist, Luno, creates throughout the short. As his home planet loses its color and forces him to escape into the lonely deep of space, Luno continues to create paintings to express his feelings. Meant to represent his loss of color and enjoyment and his fall into despair, these colors slowly transition from bright and playful to dark and pained.
Character Design: Nova
The character designs below are for Nova, the supporting character in Adrift (2020). A space cadet, she meets the protagonist, Luno, in his time of need and helps him find color once again. A warm, bright, and confident presence, her color scheme is a warm set of oranges and pinks.
